Bahrain Lube Base Oil Company Starts Production

The Oil and Gas Holding Company (nogaholding) is pleased to announce that production of lube base oils at the Bahrain lube base oil plant successfully commenced on 8th September 2011. The plant is located at Bapco’s refinery in Sitra on the east coast of Bahrain.

The Bahrain Lube Base Oil Company is a joint venture between nogaholding, Neste Oil of Finland and the Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco).

The joint venture plant manufactures premium quality VHVI (Very High Viscosity Index) Group III base oils for use in blending top-tier lubricants and has a production capacity of 400,000 metric t/a.

His Excellency Dr. Abdul-Hussain bin Ali Mirza, Chairman of nogaholding stated “The new plant is a significant step-forward for nogaholding and Bahrain. The use of Group III base oils will reduce sulphur emissions to the atmosphere, increase the life of lubricating oils, and provide additional engine protection. They are environmentally friendly products.”

“The new facility creates employment, puts Bahrain as a world leader for lubricating base oils, and is consistent with the economic principles of the Bahrain Vision 2030,” continued Dr. Mirza.

Nogaholding Chief Executive Shaikh Mohamed Al Khalifa commented “The successful commissioning of the plant is a great achievement that will contribute to the profitability of nogaholding. The new facility is one of the world’s largest units of its type and features the latest technology.”

Neste Oil is responsible for the sales and marketing of the plant’s output, and Bapco is responsible for the operation of the plant.
